Kappa Alpha (KA)

The Kappa Alpha Order is a national fraternity, founded in 1865 at Washington and Lee University. With 134 chapters and over 125,000 initiated members, Kappa Alpha continues to be a leader among fraternities. Our motto "Dieu et les Dames" which means "God and the Ladies", represents to us those things which every brother reveres and holds most dear. Within our daily lives all Kappa Alphas strive to live up to the one rule posed to college students by Robert E. Lee, our spiritual founder. He asked simply "that every student must be a gentleman".. Each of us holds this as a daily challenge to live everyday with courtesy and compassion toward all others. The brothers of Kappa Chapter, having been the 10th chapter founded within The Order, pride ourselves in our rich history and tradition here at Mercer University extending all the way back to our founding in 1873. In fact, since 1887 our chapter has maintained the same meeting room on the top floor of the Administration Building, and continue to meet in front of the same moon lit stained-glass window that was installed in that same year. We are committed to building a strong brotherhood and living by the best traditions of our Southern history: "honor and pride and discipline" as William Faulkner once said. Our Order is more than a social organization; to us it represents a way of life.
